Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old cricketer from Bihar, has made history as the youngest player to secure a deal in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rajasthan Royals (RR) acquired the left-handed batter for ₹11 million ($130,500) during the recently concluded auction in Saudi Arabia.

Suryavanshi, who debuted in India’s Ranji Trophy at just 12, has represented Bihar in national tournaments and India in Under-19 internationals. His standout performances include a 58-ball century against Australia in an Under-19 Test and an unbeaten 332 in a Bihar Under-19 tournament.

The bidding began at ₹3 million with Delhi Capitals also in contention, but RR, where Suryavanshi previously trained, won the auction. RR’s CEO, Jake Lush McCrum, expressed confidence in Suryavanshi’s potential, acknowledging the need for further development but calling him“an incredible talent.”

Suryavanshi’s rise has been a source of pride for his family, who faced significant hardships to support his cricketing aspirations. His father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, expressed gratitude and emphasized keeping his son grounded as he navigates his career.

This landmark moment highlights the IPL’s ability to uncover talent from small towns and transform their dreams into reality.
