Museum specialists in Egypt have embarked on a unique undertaking by mummifying a shark that was responsible for a gruesome attack on a Russian man at a popular resort beach. The Institute of Marine Sciences and the Red Sea Reserves have initiated the embalming process of the monstrous predator.
The discovery of body parts belonging to the victim, Vladimir Popov, inside the shark, confirmed authorities’ suspicions that they had captured the predator involved in Thursday’s harrowing attack near the Elysees Dream Beach Hotel in the renowned beach resort of Hurghada.
The horrifying footage
Disturbing video footage of the incident captured Popov, a 23-year-old, splashing desperately in the ocean before being dragged underwater, prompting horrified onlookers to cry out for help.
Museum specialists were able to extract half of the Russian man’s remains from within the shark, including his head, chest, and arms. The other half of his body was later found by fishermen in the sea.
Although the shark had nearly consumed the entirety of Popov’s body, it discarded the second half upon noticing a fishing boat approaching the scene to aid the victim.
