Massive Protests Erupt After Several Copies Of Holy Quran Burned In Bangladesh

Furious protests erupted in Bangladesh as news spread of the burning of dozens of copies of the Holy Quran, prompting thousands of people to take to the streets. In this Muslim-majority nation, the act deeply offended sentiments, resulting in clashes that left several officers injured.

The heinous act

As per the details, police employed rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse a crowd of around 10,000 people during an overnight confrontation from Sunday to Monday. The protesters aimed to confront the two individuals accused of desecrating the sacred text.

The clashes led to injuries, with at least 14 policemen harmed. However, information regarding injuries sustained by the protesters remained unclear.

The alleged perpetrators, identified as school principal Nurur Rahman and Mahbub Alam, were apprehended in Sylhet, known for its conservative values. The accused claimed they burnt the Qurans due to age-related issues and printing errors. Authorities seized 45 charred copies of the Holy Quran.
