After enduring months behind bars, Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue, asserting his identity as a politician open to discussions. Speaking from Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, where he has been detained in various cases for the past 19 months, Khan emphasized his readiness to talk and engage in political discourse.
The downfall of PTI
Having faced a no-confidence move that led to his ousting in April 2022, Khan has encountered a series of challenges in the lead-up to the upcoming general elections. His imprisonment last May marked the beginning, followed by a wave of leaders leaving the PTI and legal actions against remaining party members.
Recently, the party’s electoral symbol, a significant voter-driving force, was revoked, and the intended alliance with PTI-Nazriati also saw a reversal.
Khan further criticized the efforts to form a “controlled parliament” and acknowledged his past error in accepting a weak government. He expressed regret, stating, “My biggest mistake was to accept a weak government. Instead of a weak government, I should have held elections again. It would be better to sit in the opposition rather than a weak coalition government.”

However, with the general elections scheduled for February 8, Khan’s aspirations suffered a setback as the Lahore High Court rejected his appeal against the rejection of nomination papers earlier in the week, leaving his political future uncertain.
