The undeclared ‘Audemars Piguet’
Upon his arrival at the airport, Arnold Schwarzenegger was taken aside by officers who searched his luggage and found the ‘Audemars Piguet’ watch. The actor had allegedly not declared the said item on his arrival customs form. The watch was made especially for the actor by the luxury Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet.
A spokesperson for the Munich customs office stated, “We have initiated criminal tax proceedings. The watch should have been registered because it is an import.” An investigation for alleged tax evasion was launched because the watch was intended to be sold within the EU.
The 76-year-old’s non-profit, the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, told a well-known German press agency that the actor had planned to market the watch at an auction in Kitzbuhel, Austria, about 89 km from Munich, to benefit climate initiatives.
