In a historic moment for Pakistan’s tennis community, Aisam-ul-Haq has been elected as the new president of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF). The tennis star, who is also a former doubles world number 10 was elected after defeating Major General (retd) Asghar Nawaz by a close margin of 8-7 votes.
Tennis star takes charge of PTF
This is a significant achievement for Aisam-ul-Haq as he is the first active tennis player to hold this position in the Pakistan Tennis Federation. His appointment for a four-year term brings fresh hope for the development of tennis in Pakistan. He has already demonstrated his commitment to the sport by representing Pakistan at various international tournaments.
Speaking about his appointment, Aisam-ul-Haq said, “I am honored to be elected as the president of the Pakistan Tennis Federation. I will work tirelessly to promote and develop tennis in Pakistan. I will also ensure that our players get the best possible facilities and support to represent our country at the highest level.”
Aisam-ul-Haq’s appointment comes at a time when Pakistan’s tennis community is facing significant challenges. Unfortunately, the country has not produced any top-level tennis players in recent years. Plus the sports’ infrastructure also needs significant investment for improvement.
