Pakistan has seen a significant increase in the number of people traveling abroad with over 8 million citizens leaving the country in the outgoing year of 2023, according to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The FIA Immigration report stated that the agency has successfully processed over 19.5 million passengers at international arrival and departure counters. Of these passengers, 7.1 million were Pakistanis, and 2.1 million were foreigners who visited the country, while 8.1 million Pakistani nationals and 2.2 million foreigners departed from Pakistan.
With the rise in overseas travel, the FIA has also been working diligently to combat human trafficking. The report highlights that the FIA Integrated Border Management System processed 2935 stop-list cases and arrested 1602 human traffickers while conducting different operations. The agency’s efforts have resulted in the arrest of 25 most wanted criminals in 2023.

Despite the challenges faced, the US State Department has maintained Pakistan’s Tier 2 status in its annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report 2023, indicating that the country has made significant efforts to combat such activities.
