Yet Again, DHA Karachi Grapples With Urban Flooding Due To Heavy Rainfall

Residents of Karachi’s upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) neighborhood were caught off guard on Friday when heavy rainfall caused an urban flooding situation in the Khayaban-e-Shahbaz area. The flooding caused significant damage to properties and resulted in traffic congestion as people struggled to navigate the streets.

Rain, rain, go away, outdated infrastructure can’t play!

The situation was exacerbated by the city’s outdated infrastructure which, as usual, failed to cope with the heavy rainfall. Many residents took to social media to express their frustration, highlighting the need for the authorities to upgrade the city’s drainage systems.

According to local reports, the flooding caused significant damage to cars parked on the streets, as well as to houses and shops in the area. Residents were forced to wade through ankle-deep water to get to safety while some even had to be rescued by emergency services.

Despite the chaos caused by the flooding, some residents remained optimistic and praised the efforts of the local authorities and volunteers who worked tirelessly to minimize the damage. The incident has, yet again, brought to light the urgent need for the city to invest in modern infrastructure and drainage systems to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
