In a move to ensure the speedy disposal of billions of rupees worth of tax cases pending adjudication, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the suspension of Commissioner Inland Revenue Islamabad and other relevant officials. The prime minister has directed an inquiry against all the suspended officials.
PM Sharif cracking down on tax cheats
The PM Office Media Wing said in a press release that Shehbaz Sharif had requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to ensure the early disposal of tax cases. The prime minister had recently taken notice of one of these pending cases in which an FBR counsel sought adjournment.
Shehbaz Sharif has made it clear that he will not tolerate any lethargy in the pursuance of such legal matters and under his pledge with the nation, will continue to monitor the tax reforms himself. The national exchequer has been suffering due to the pendency of such cases involving billions of rupees in tax matters.

It is worth noting that Shehbaz Sharif directed immediate reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) soon after assuming the PM office and decided to oversee the process himself. The suspension of officials for delay in tax cases is seen as a significant step towards ensuring a transparent and efficient tax system.
