A heartbreaking video of a Peshawar resident, Sher Zaman, attempting to sell his children has sent shockwaves across Pakistan, igniting outrage on social media and a swift response from the city administration.
“I Can’t Feed Them”…
The disturbing footage exposes Sher Zaman’s dire situation. Once employed at a brick kiln, he has been jobless for two years, plunging his family into a desperate fight against poverty, hunger and homelessness. Driven to despair, Zaman took a step no parent should ever contemplate.
“My family is starving”, Zaman pleads in the video, pointing to the ruins of his rented home, destroyed by heavy rains. “I have no work, no hope. I’m helpless, that’s why I’m selling my children”.
The raw emotion in Zaman’s voice resonated with social media users, propelling the video to viral status. Thankfully, it also caught the attention of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Peshawar, who took immediate action.
Zaman was contacted by the DC after the video surfaced, offering a glimmer of hope for his beleaguered family. The DC has pledged to relocate the children to safe havens where they will receive proper education and care.
In a display of further support, the Chief Executive of Peshawar’s Water and Sanitation Services Department offered Zaman employment upon receiving the necessary documentation. Additionally, former provincial minister Aqil Shah donated Rs.150,000 to help ease the family’s financial burden.
