Pakistan is gearing up for a major cricketing comeback as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) throws its hat in the ring to host the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. This exciting development marks a potential turning point for the sport within the country With the tournament potentially being held on Pakistani soil for the first time in almost 30 years.

Karachi, Lahore & Rawalpindi?

The PCB recently submitted an initial draft schedule to the International Cricket Council (ICC), proposing Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi as the host cities for the eight-team tournament. This news ignites memories of Pakistan’s triumphant victory in the 2017 edition of the Champions Trophy, further fueling anticipation amongst fans.

While specific dates are yet to be confirmed, the proposed schedule outlines a two-week-long cricketing extravaganza. This bid follows a recent visit by an ICC delegation to assess Pakistan’s logistical and infrastructural capabilities for hosting such a prestigious event.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi exuded confidence at a press conference in Lahore, stating, “We’re continuously in touch with the ICC”, highlighting the PCB’s commitment to delivering a top-notch tournament for players and fans alike.

The biggest challenge lies in India’s potential participation, given the current political tensions between the two nations. Bilateral cricketing clashes are a rarity, leaving ICC events as the only platform for these cricketing giants to face off.
