In a case that will leave you numb with disbelief, a woman in southern India has been arrested for allegedly throwing her disabled son to his death in a crocodile-infested canal.
The 6-year-old boy, who suffered from hearing and speech impairments, was found dismembered in the canal of Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, on Sunday. Reports suggest that it was a monstrous act fueled by a marital dispute.
According to the local police, 32-year-old Savitri allegedly threw her son into the canal after a heated argument with her husband, Ravi Kumar, 36, who has also been arrested.
Savitri claims her husband pressured her to abandon their son, viewing him as a burden. This alleged pressure, coupled with a fight on Saturday night, is believed to have triggered the unthinkable.
“The argument escalated, and Savitri allegedly threw her son into the canal linked to the Kali River, known for its crocodile population, around 9 pm”, said police inspector Krishna Barakeri.
Savitri further alleges her husband mentally tortured her, urging her to dispose of their son. “He used to say, ‘Let the son die'”, she reportedly told police.

The horror doesn’t end there. After neighbors alerted authorities, a search operation was launched. Tragically, the search was delayed due to darkness, and the boy’s body was only recovered the next day, found in the clutches of a captured crocodile.
The body bore horrific injuries, bite marks, and a missing limb. Both Savitri and Ravi Kumar, a house help and mason, respectively, now face murder charges.
