Eid-ul-Adha Overeating Sends Over 1,200 People To Hospitals In Punjab, KP

During the Eid ul Adha holidays, over 1,200 individuals were hospitalized across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, primarily due to excessive eating and related ailments.

In Peshawar, Lady Reading Hospital recorded 610 gastroenteritis cases within a 24-hour period, largely attributed to overeating and excessive meat consumption, according to hospital spokesperson Mohammad Asim. Additionally, the hospital reported several injuries from animal collisions.

Traffic accidents also surged during the holiday period, with around 500 people admitted due to such incidents. In Punjab, six major public hospitals documented a total of 2,200 patients during the Eid ul Adha holidays.

Among these, 180 cases were linked to gastroenteritis, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital treated over 130 patients, while Services Hospital, Ganga Ram, and Mayo Hospital each admitted more than 100 patients.

Medical experts have advised citizens to consume meat in moderation and avoid overeating during Eid ul Adha celebrations to prevent health issues. The spike in hospital admissions underscores the importance of mindful eating habits during festive periods.
