Karachi’s Deadly Heatwave Claims 17 Lives In Just 36 Hours

The ongoing severe heatwave in Karachi has tragically claimed the lives of at least 17 people over the past 36 hours. Most of the deceased have been identified as drug addicts. The intensified heat, exacerbated by the absence of a sea breeze, has led to dire situations across the city.

Rescue workers have been tirelessly responding to incidents in various neighborhoods, transporting bodies to morgues. According to rescue sources, 17 bodies were brought to the morgue within 36 hours, highlighting the severity of the crisis.

The deceased were found in areas including Lyari, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jehanabad, Liaquatabad, Landhi, Lines Area, and Garden. Among them was Bilal, a father of three from Lines Area, who succumbed to heat stroke and a subsequent cardiac arrest.

The Sindh Health Department identified two of the deceased as 54-year-old Fazal Rahman and 54-year-old Ramesh. Civil Hospital admitted 22 individuals with heat-related issues, reporting two deaths. Similarly, 22 citizens were treated at Liaquatabad Government Hospital.
