Aurat March Karachi has demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz either apologize or resign due to her recent remarks on the alleged rape of a Lahore student. The group condemned Nawaz for using “regressive language” that undermines the dignity and safety of survivors of sexual violence.
In a public statement, Aurat March criticized Nawaz for reinforcing harmful patriarchal beliefs, suggesting that a woman’s worth is tied to her“purity.” They questioned whether survivors of rape should be considered impure, pointing out that this kind of language fuels victim-blaming and discourages survivors from coming forward.
The group was particularly concerned by Nawaz’s framing of the alleged rape as something the victim was “wrongly accused of,” which they argue shifts blame onto the survivor instead of the perpetrator.

Aurat March has called on Maryam Nawaz to publicly apologize or step down, stating that her comments betray the rights and dignity of sexual violence survivors and make her unfit to hold public office.
