The High Court of Justice in London has declared Hasan Nawaz Sharif, son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, bankrupt due to unpaid tax liabilities owed to the UK government. The official bankruptcy order was issued on April 29, 2024, under case number 694 of 2023, following a petition filed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) on August 25, 2023.
Details of the bankruptcy were published in the UK Gazette, a public record for insolvency cases. Hasan Nawaz, residing at Flat 17, Avenfield House, 118 Park Lane, serves as a company director but is now restricted from managing businesses or acting as a company director without court approval until discharged from bankruptcy.
The case was handled by HMRC’s frequent petitioner contracts management team and represented in court by the legal firm Kaur Maxwell. Reports indicate that the bankruptcy arose from Hasan Nawaz’s failure to resolve outstanding debts with HMRC.

Despite the legal restrictions, Hasan Nawaz remains listed as a director in several UK-based companies, raising questions about compliance. The official record confirms the legal implications of the bankruptcy order, which now takes effect.
