In a shocking revelation, a blind individual successfully secured a valid driving license in Islamabad by paying a Rs30,000 bribe to traffic police officials, sparking serious concerns about road safety and corruption.
The exposé, conducted by investigative journalist Iqrarul Hasan on ARY News’ Sar-e-Aam, uncovered a corruption network within Islamabad Traffic Police’s license branch. The Sar-e-Aam team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a sting operation to reveal how licenses were being issued without mandatory tests, including theoretical, medical, and practical driving evaluations.
During the operation, an agent and a traffic police official were caught accepting bribes in exchange for bypassing the testing process. To demonstrate the system’s flaws, the team arranged for another person to take the medical test on behalf of the blind applicant. Despite the clear violation, the license was issued without scrutiny.
This malpractice not only undermines the credibility of the licensing process but also poses a severe threat to public safety on the roads.
