Nissan Ends Sponsorship of Pride Events and Scales Back DEI Initiatives

Source: Fox Business

Nissan has announced significant changes to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, including halting sponsorship for certain Pride events and ending diversity-based hiring practices. The decision follows discussions with activist Robby Starbuck, who had criticized the company’s “woke” policies.

According to Starbucks, Nissan has agreed to eliminate mandatory DEI or LGBTQ training for employees and will now focus on merit-based hiring and performance evaluations. The company also pledged to ensure future corporate sponsorships align with its brand standards, citing concerns over events exposing inappropriate content to children, such as the recent San Francisco Pride event.

Additionally, Nissan plans to withdraw from the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index and any third-party surveys with political activism angles.

Nissan’s vice president of communications, Brian Brockman, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to respect and inclusion in a statement to Fox News Digital. He emphasized that Nissan remains “a company for everyone” and that these changes aim to create a neutral and productive workplace environment.

Nissan joins other major corporations like Toyota, Ford, and Walmart in moving away from controversial DEI practices amid public backlash, signaling a broader shift in corporate strategies concerning diversity and inclusion initiatives.
