Addressing Islamabad’s security concerns, Afghan Chargé d’Affaires Mawlawi Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb assured on Tuesday that Afghanistan will not allow its territory to be used by terrorist groups against Pakistan. Shakeeb made these remarks at a seminar, “Strengthening Economic Ties between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia,” organized by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS).

The assurance follows Pakistan’s recent concerns over a rise in militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, regions bordering Afghanistan. Islamabad has urged Kabul to take action against militants allegedly sheltering in Afghanistan.

Shakeeb acknowledged the shared security challenges faced by both countries, affirming that peace, security, and stability are mutual goals. He stated that Afghanistan’s policy opposes non-state elements and emphasized that these groups are not supported by Kabul.

Discussing regional development, Shakeeb expressed optimism about Afghanistan’s involvement in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative, which he believes could improve regional infrastructure and investment and strengthen ties between neighboring nations.
