In a remarkable feat, Afghanistan’s opening batsmen Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have set a new record for the most runs by a pair in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. The dynamic duo accumulated a total of 442 runs in the 2024 tournament, surpassing the previous record of 411 runs set by Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan in 2021.

This achievement was highlighted during Afghanistan’s match against Bangladesh, where Gurbaz and Zadran contributed a solid 59-run partnership for the first wicket. Despite their efforts, Afghanistan managed to post a modest total of 115-5 in their allotted 20 overs. Gurbaz was the standout performer, scoring 43 runs off 55 balls, showcasing his resilience and skill.

Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain proved to be a formidable opponent, taking 3 wickets for just 26 runs, which significantly restricted Afghanistan’s scoring opportunities. His performance added pressure to the Afghan innings, ensuring that the total remained within a chaseable target.
