Afghan Women Share Singing Videos Online to Protest Taliban’s New Restrictions

Source: Gallup News

Afghan women are using social media to protest against the Taliban’s new restrictive laws by sharing videos of themselves singing. These rules, imposed on August 27, 2024, demand women remain silent in public and fully cover their faces and bodies.

Women, both in Afghanistan and abroad, are defying these rules by singing about their fight for freedom and their opposition to the Taliban’s control.

In one video, a woman, fully covered, sings about the severe restrictions that have silenced women and kept them confined to their homes. This movement has spread across South Asia and Europe, with many women using their voices to resist the Taliban’s rule.

Despite the new laws banning women from singing or speaking loudly in public, Afghan women are determined to make their voices heard.
