Afro-Asia Cup Revival Could See Pakistani and Indian Cricketers in Same Team

Source: Geo

The Afro-Asia Cup, a unique cricket series between Asia XI and Africa XI, may make a comeback after nearly two decades, as confirmed by the Africa Cricket Association (ACA). If revived, the tournament could bring together cricket players from rival nations Pakistan and India on the same team, much to the excitement of fans.

The Afro-Asia Cup had only two previous editions, in 2005 and 2007. In 2005, the series was shared 1-1 after the final game was rained out, while in 2007, Asia XI won all three matches. A third edition was scheduled for 2009 but was canceled. Now, ACA is keen to bring back this unique tournament as part of its goals to foster more competitive opportunities across the continent.

During an annual meeting, the ACA appointed an interim committee to strengthen its partnerships with cricket bodies, including the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). ACA Interim Chief Tavengwa Mukuhlani emphasized the financial benefits of the tournament, noting the strong interest from both regions.

“The Afro-Asia Cup brings the much-needed financial input to the organization,” Mukuhlani shared, adding that discussions with ACC officials and African representatives have been positive.
