Meet Ahmed Khan Qandal, A 63-Year-Old Pakistani Serving In Masjid-Al-Haram Since 1983

During the late 80s, a 23-year-old boy named Ahmed Khan Qandal from Pakistan told his parents that he is going to Saudi Arabia and promised that he would return home soon. But due to the unexpected demise of his parents, he decided to devote his life to working at Masjid-al-Haram.

As per the details, Ahmed Khan Qandal belongs to Pakistan’s Mandi Bahauddin and moved to Saudi Arabia back in 1983. Recalling that year, Saudi Arabia was under the reign of the late King Fahd bin Abdulaziz and was on the road to development.

Speaking on his journey to Saudi Arabia, Qandal shared that he never thought of serving Masjid-al-Haram for four decades as the supervisor of sanitation and considers himself one of the luckiest people in the world.

Ahmed Ali Qandal’s journey of 4 decades

Since his arrival in Saudi Arabia till now, Ahmed Khan has witnessed some of the notable events in Saudi Arabia’s history – the second and third expansion projects of the Grand Mosque and the restoration project of the Holy Kaaba.

Sharing his experience, Qandal stated, “Whenever I meet someone new, they tell me how lucky I amto be able to serve the Grand Mosque and pray there. I was always near the Holy Kaaba and this is a great honor that only a person with a special relationship with God can have. I was blessed to be able to do this work for four decades.”

Official details reveal that Ahmed Khan Qandal is the father of two sons and one daughter. One of his sons works in the Grand Mosque’s electrical department, and the other resides in Pakistan with his sister.

“I wish to be buried in Makkah”

He emphasized that he wishes to be buried in Makkah, where he lives, and that someone who lives in the service of the two Holy Mosques cannot be bored or lonely.
