Pakistani singer and actor Ali Zafar recently faced severe backlash on social media after a picture of him wearing a hoodie with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) electoral symbol, a lion, surfaced online. The picture was taken backstage while Zafar was performing at a concert in Toronto.

The lion that bruised it all

The backlash was immediate and widespread, with many social media users accusing Zafar of being biased towards the political party and promoting their agenda. Some even called it the singer’s tactic to get attention, “nothing else”.

Zafar, however, took to Twitter to clarify his stance, stating that the hoodie was a gift and he had no political affiliations. Further, he sarcastically wrote that from next time he’ll even think twice before wearing anything.

This incident once again highlights the sensitive political environment in Pakistan, where even the slightest hint of political bias can result in severe repercussions. It also serves as a reminder that celebrities and public figures need to be cautious about their actions and the messages they inadvertently send out to their fans and followers.
