In a startling turn of events, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan faced his third accusation and subsequent sentencing in just five days. The ongoing legal battle took an unexpected twist as Khawar Maneka, Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, filed a case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, accusing them of an unlawful marriage that violated Islamic practices.
The official statements
The case, presided over by Islamabad’s Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah in Adiala Jail, brought forth serious allegations from Maneka. He claimed that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were in an “illegal” relationship before their marriage, alleging that their affair began during the 2014 sit-in. Maneka expressed his belief that Imran Khan had destroyed his family through his actions.
“The affair between my ex-wife [Bushra Bibi] and Imran Khan began during the 2014 sit-in. He [Imran Khan] destroyed my family”, stated Maneka.
During the hearing, Imran Khan vehemently denied the accusations and expressed his willingness to take an oath on the Holy Quran and challenged Maneka to do the same. The court considered the possibility of both parties taking oaths, emphasizing that cross-examination would cease afterward.
However, a subsequent clarification revealed that Khan could not take an oath as he had offered to take it from the witness, leading to the return of the court order by the PTI founder’s lawyers.
What happened to the Maneka family
In a conversation with reporters, Maneka revealed the devastating impact of the alleged affair on his family, with one daughter facing divorce and one son entering a rehabilitation center due to the emotional toll.
Bushra Bibi, speaking to the media for the first time in Adiala Jail, portrayed herself as a victim of a plot to humiliate her. She vowed not to succumb to pressure, labeling the accusations as an attempt to weaken Khan and the PTI.
