Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, is currently on a significant five-day trip to the United States. The PM will participate in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Kakar’s maiden UNGA address
What makes this visit remarkable is that Kakar is the first caretaker Prime Minister in Pakistan’s history to address the main UN body, where critical decisions are deliberated.

Under Pakistan’s constitution, a neutral caretaker government assumes responsibility for overseeing national elections. It typically occurs within 90 days of dissolving the lower house of parliament. However, in this instance, elections might be postponed until March. The delay is said to be due to the election regulator’s need for additional time to establish new voting districts based on the latest population data.

The fact that no previous caretaker PM from Pakistan has ever spoken at the UNGA lends even more significance to Kakar’s address. This year’s UNGA session is scheduled from September 19 to 26, with Kakar slated to deliver his speech on September 22.
