On Thursday, the army hinted at a potential military trial for former Prime Minister Imran Khan. During a media briefing, military spokesman Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry warned that anyone using military personnel for personal or political gain could face legal action under military law. He stressed that if evidence of such misuse exists, the law will take its course.
In response to questions about Khan’s potential trial, Gen Chaudhry avoided a direct answer, stating the matter is currently sub judice. However, he outlined that civilians could be tried under military law if they compromise the duty or allegiance of military personnel.
The speculation about Khan’s military trial intensified after he sought intervention from the Islamabad High Court, fearing he might be implicated in the May 9 violence. Concerns were further fueled by rumors that former spy chief Faiz Hameed might turn against him.
