Belal Muhammad Becomes First Palestine Fighter to Win UFC Title

Belal Muhammad has made history as the first UFC champion of Palestinian descent. The 36-year-old fighter won the welterweight title from Leon Edwards at UFC 304, securing a unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) after a tough five-round fight.

Born in Chicago to Palestinian immigrants, Muhammad extended his unbeaten streak to 11 fights, with his last loss dating back to 2019. His emotional victory, marked by a bloodied face and falling to his knees, underscores his remarkable achievement.

Muhammad dedicated his win to Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza, and showcased the Palestinian flag during the match. This fight was a rematch following their 2021 bout, which ended without a decision. Edwards had been on a strong winning streak before this match, having defended his title twice.
