Brazilian Woman Arrested After Taking “Dead Uncle” Into The Bank To Sign For A Loan

Source: Daily Mail

In a shocking incident, a Brazilian woman has been arrested after allegedly attempting to secure a loan with the help of a deceased man.

As they say “going to great lengths”…

Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, 42, became the subject of viral footage after entering a Rio de Janeiro bank with the body of 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga in a wheelchair. Nunes, claiming to be Braga’s niece and caregiver, positioned the deceased man and attempted to manipulate his hand to sign the loan paperwork.

The disturbing video shows Nunes holding a pen in one hand and seemingly trying to prop up Braga’s head with the other. Nunes can be heard urging Braga to sign, stating, “Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign.”

Despite the man’s lifeless appearance, Nunes continues the charade, even going so far as to say, “He doesn’t say anything; that’s just how he is.”

Bank staff, noticing the man’s unresponsive state and Nunes’ unusual behavior, alerted authorities. Upon arrival, police arrested Nunes on charges of theft by fraud and abuse of a corpse.

Nunes’ lawyer disputes the narrative, claiming the man was alive during the bank visit. However, a medical examination revealed Braga had likely been deceased for several hours. And died in a lying-down position, not seated as positioned by Nunes.

“Anyone watching the video can tell he was dead,”stated lead investigator Fábio Souza.“Can you imagine her? She was touching him. She knew he was dead”, she added. This bizarre incident raises questions about security protocols and highlights the lengths some may go for financial gain.
