Source: ESPNcricinfo

Ten years after its last edition, cricket fans across the globe have something to cheer about as the cricket boards of Australia, England and India are in ‘active conversations’ to bring back the Champions League T20 (CLT20) tournament.

The news comes from Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins, who stated that the biggest challenge would be to find a suitable window in the busy cricket calendar for the tournament.

The return of CLT20?

Nick Cummins believes that the T20 landscape is mature enough to bring back the CLT20 which was ahead of its time when it was last held in 2014. The last edition of the tournament involved three teams from India: two each from Australia and South Africa and one each from Pakistan, the West Indies, and New Zealand. The Chennai Super Kings won the tournament.

Cummins is optimistic about the revival of the CLT20 and believes that the first iteration of the tournament could be for women, featuring cricketers playing in the WPL, the Hundred and the WBBL.

The cricket fraternity is excited about the prospect of the CLT20’s comeback. The tournament will provide a platform for the best players in the world to play against each other. It will also resolve the club vs country tension in cricket and find a balance between international and club-based competitions.
