Champions Trophy Delayed as Broadcasters Demand IND-PAK Clash

Source: Cricket Addictor

The schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been delayed because broadcasters and commercial partners are unhappy with the current fixtures, which do not include a match between India and Pakistan. Geo News reports that these broadcasters have threatened legal action if the high-profile clash, known for boosting both viewership and revenue, is not added to the lineup.

The tournament, scheduled to take place in Pakistan in February 2025, has already sparked controversy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined to send the Indian team to Pakistan, citing security concerns. In response, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is exploring a hybrid model where India’s matches could be played at neutral venues.

This impasse has raised concerns about the tournament’s feasibility, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly considering a boycott if a solution isn’t reached. Broadcasters argue that an India-Pakistan match is crucial for the tournament’s financial success, as these encounters consistently attract record audiences.

The delay underscores the complex challenge of balancing political disputes with the commercial and sporting priorities of international cricket. Finding a resolution is critical to ensuring the success of the Champions Trophy 2025.
