Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” has shattered records, earning $205 million in US and Canadian ticket sales over its opening weekend. Distributor Walt Disney announced this as the largest domestic opening of the year. The film’s debut set a new record for an R-rated film, surpassing the $154.2 million opening of Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” in June.
Starring Ryan Reynolds as the raunchy, wise-cracking Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as the fierce Wolverine, this R-rated Marvel film is Disney’s first of its kind. Known for its explicit humor, swearing, and intense violence, “Deadpool & Wolverine” captivated audiences.
Internationally, the film premiered on Wednesday, grossing $233.3 million outside the US and Canada, bringing the total to an impressive $438.3 million. This marks Disney’s second consecutive hit, following a series of underperforming films in 2023.

The success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” is a boon for cinema chains like AMC Entertainment, Cineworld, and Cinemark, which have faced a sparse film schedule in 2024 due to strikes by Hollywood actors and writers last year.
