In a rare and extraordinary medical case, doctors at Children’s Hospital Faisalabad successfully operated on a 25-day-old newborn girl, Zainab, to remove a fetus from her stomach. Zainab, the daughter of Amanat Ali from a nearby village, was brought to the hospital after suffering from constant flatulence and a swollen abdomen.

After conducting several medical tests, doctors discovered that the swelling was due to a rare condition known as “fetus in fetu,” where a fetus develops inside the body of another fetus. This rare phenomenon occurs when twins form in the womb, but one becomes entangled and absorbed into the other, continuing to grow to some extent within the healthier baby.

The surgery was successful, and doctors report that Zainab’s condition is now stable and out of danger. This case adds to the limited number of documented instances of “fetus in fetu,” a condition first identified in 1945.
