A treasured piece of cricketing history, Sir Don Bradman’s iconic “baggy green” cap, is set to go under the hammer in Sydney. Worn by the Australian cricket legend during India’s historic 1947-48 tour of Australia, the cap is expected to fetch up to $260,000 at Bonhams auction house.

This particular cap holds immense historical significance as Bradman scored an astounding 715 runs in six innings during the series, averaging an unparalleled 178.75, with three centuries and a double century. The tour itself marked India’s first-ever cricket series in Australia following its independence.

Despite showing signs of wear, including fading, insect damage, and a torn peak, the cap’s value remains undiminished due to its connection to Bradman, regarded as the greatest cricketer in history. The cap symbolizes Australia’s cricketing heritage and is highly revered by players and fans alike.

This auction follows the record-breaking sale of Bradman’s Test debut cap in 1928 for $290,000 and Shane Warne’s cap, which fetched $650,000 in 2020 for bushfire relief. Bradman, who passed away in 2001, left a legacy that continues to inspire cricket enthusiasts worldwide. The auction represents yet another opportunity to own a piece of cricket’s rich history.
