Dubai Court Recognizes Cryptocurrency as Legal Salary Payment

Source: Crypto News

The Dubai Court of First Instance has declared that cryptocurrency can be used as a legal form of salary payment. This marks a significant shift in the United Arab Emirates’ stance on digital currencies, which was previously cautious due to concerns over their value and volatility.

The ruling came after a case in which an employee’s salary included payments in cryptocurrency that were withheld by the employer for six months. The court sided with the employee, affirming that the salary payments in cryptocurrency must be honored according to the employment contract without converting them to traditional currency.

This decision could pave the way for the wider use of digital currencies in employment agreements in the UAE. It reflects a growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies as a valid form of payment, aligning the UAE with global movements towards digital financial solutions. The ruling is expected to influence how employers and employees negotiate salaries in the future.
