PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry & Brother Arrested, Islamabad Police Yet To Present Them In Court

Earlier today, the Islamabad police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s senior leader Fawad Chaudhry from his residence. The sudden arrest has spread tension throughout the country and social media is filled with hashtags demanding his immediate release.

The arrest: Islamabad police fails to present Fawad Chaudhry in court

According to the official media reports, the Lahore High Court (LHC), hours after the arrest ordered the Islamabad police to present Fawad Chaudhry in court. However, the reason behind the delay is said to be the confusion if the provincial government or the federal government has been made part of the high-level case.

On the bizarre comments by the Islamabad police, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, who is seeing the case stated that he knows how to ensure that the court orders are implemented and ordered the capital police to produce Fawad Chaudhry in LHC no matter where he is.

Fawad Chaudhry put on transitory remand

Reportedly, the court, after hearing the whole argument has summoned Inspector General (IG) Punjab and IG Islamabad to reach LHC by 6 pm along with Fawad Chaudhry. Earlier, the PTI leader’s transitory remand was also approved by the magisterial court of Cantt Lahore.

Recent reports reveal that the PTI leader’s brother Faraz Chaudhry has also been apprehended from Jhelum, Rawalpindi protesting to release his brother Fawad Chaudhry. After the arrest, Faraz was transferred to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) building.

ECP registered FIR against Fawad Chaudhry

Fawad Chaudhry was arrested on a previous first information report (FIR) registered against him by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Umar Hameed. The FIR was registered against the former minister for “inciting violence against a constitutional institution.”

Soon after the arrest, PTI leadership and other public figures expressed their disappointment in the “rule of law” that the current government is trying to impose.
