FIA Gets Two-Day Physical Remand Of Activist Sarim Burney On ‘Human Trafficking’ Charges

Source: Dawn

On Thursday, a local court granted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) a two-day physical remand of human rights activist Sarim Burney on human trafficking charges. Investigation Officer Chaudhry Bilal presented Burney before Judicial Magistrate Khaleequ Zaman, requesting a 14-day remand in police custody.

Burney’s counsel argued that the case against him was fabricated and sought his discharge. However, the court denied this request, granting a two-day remand instead. The court also instructed the investigating officer to submit a progress report at the next hearing, maintaining a focus on the ongoing investigation.

As per the media reports, Sarim Burney was apprehended by the Anti-Human Trafficking Police upon his arrival at Karachi Airport earlier this week. Details surrounding the arrest remain unclear, with sources alleging Burney’s involvement in serious crimes, including human trafficking.
