Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has hailed Pakistan’s young cricket talent, Saim Ayub, as “a real star in the making.” The 22-year-old left-handed batter recently proved Ponting’s praise accurate by delivering a historic performance in the first ODI against South Africa on Tuesday.

In a thrilling match, Ayub scored an impressive 109 runs off 119 balls, guiding Pakistan to a three-wicket victory. His extraordinary knock, which featured 10 boundaries and three sixes, made him the youngest player to score a century against South Africa while chasing.

By achieving this feat, Ayub broke a 31-year-old record set by West Indian legend Brian Lara, who was 23 when he accomplished a similar milestone in 1991.

Adding to his list of accolades, Ayub also became the youngest batter to score a chasing century on South African soil. He surpassed Quinton de Kock’s record, set in 2016 against England.
