The retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, former head of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been taken into military custody. He is now facing a court martial linked to the Top City housing scheme scandal. This is the first time a former intelligence chief in Pakistan is undergoing such proceedings.

The military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced that this action follows a thorough inquiry ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The inquiry found serious allegations against Faiz Hameed to be credible. As a result, disciplinary action under the Pakistan Army Act has been initiated.

In addition to the housing scheme scandal, Faiz Hameed is also accused of breaking military rules after his retirement. These accusations include misuse of power and actions that could harm Pakistan’s institutions.

Faiz Hameed, who retired in November 2022, has been a controversial figure. His involvement in various high-profile incidents, including the Faizabad sit-in in 2017 and alleged interference in political matters, has kept him in the spotlight. He has also been accused of corruption and accumulating wealth beyond his means.

The scandal revolves around claims that Hameed orchestrated a raid on the home of Moeez Khan, the owner of the Top City housing scheme, leading to serious accusations.
