Four Pakistanis Killed, Others Injured In Oman Mosque Shooting

Several people, including four Pakistanis, were killed and multiple wounded in a shooting near a mosque in Oman’s capital, Muscat. The Pakistani envoy in Oman, Ali Imran Chaudhry, confirmed the deaths.

The Royal Oman Police reported the incident in the Al-Wadi Al-Kabir area, stating that four people were initially killed and several others injured. The police are investigating the matter.

Speaking exclusively to a local news outlet, Chaudhry confirmed the death of two Pakistanis and noted that they are in contact with the Omani government regarding the investigation.

In response to the incident, the United States embassy in Muscat issued a security alert and canceled all visa appointments for Tuesday. “US citizens should remain vigilant, monitor local news, and heed directions of local authorities”, the embassy advised on social media platform X.

Verified footage from AFP shows people fleeing near Imam Ali Mosque as gunshots are heard. The shooting occurred during Ashura, an annual day of mourning for Shiites commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussein.
