A French university has cut ties with Reichman University near Tel Aviv due to what it described as “warmongering” positions regarding the G@za war, local French media reported. The decision by the Political Studies Institute in Strasbourg, made in June and revealed on Wednesday by Dernieres Nouvelles d’Alsace, has sparked criticism from Paris.

The move followed support from students and teachers who called the Isr@eli institution’s stance “devoid of any humanist perspective.” Jean-Philippe Heurtin, the institute’s director, opposed the decision but noted it was approved by the university board, including student representatives.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot expressed disappointment, emphasizing that “it’s in Isr@eli universities that we find the most fervent advocates for peace and the two-state solution.”

Criticism intensified when an opinion article in Haaretz highlighted that Reichman University had previously awarded an honorary degree to a military commander involved in a 2015 incident resulting in the death of a P@lestinian teenager.

This academic boycott aligns with the broader P@lestinian-led “Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions” (BDS) movement, advocating against institutions seen as complicit in military activities.
