Gas Load-Shedding In Karachi To Get Worse From Today Due To Annual Maintenance

Source: Dawn

Karachi, the bustling metropolis on Pakistan’s southern coast, is bracing itself for a challenging period as citizens are set to encounter a severe gas load-shedding scenario. According to a recent report, the city’s residents will grapple with the consequences of a significant gas supply reduction from August 12 to 27.

Karachi to be without gas for 16 days

This impending shortage, totaling a staggering 107 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), is attributed to essential annual maintenance work scheduled at the Kunnar-Pasakhi Deep (KPD) gas field. The maintenance initiative, divided into three distinct phases spanning 16 days, is expected to disrupt the normal gas supply rhythm.

During this time, a comprehensive eight-day shutdown will be implemented, coupled with a subsequent four-day partial shutdown. The cumulative impact of these measures will lead to a considerable drop in gas availability, reducing supply by 107 mmcfd during the full shutdown period and 50 mmcfd during the partial shutdown phase.

As a result of this supply cut, a broad spectrum of sectors is poised to be affected. From domestic consumers to commercial enterprises, industries, and even vital power plants like Kapco, the ramifications will be widely felt.

Karachi’s resilience will once again be put to the test as its populace navigates through these challenging days, adapting to the temporary constraints and seeking innovative solutions to mitigate the inconvenience brought about by this necessary maintenance endeavor.
