In a startling revelation, Mohammad Javaid Khan, a government employee who had been missing for the past six years in Karachi, has been found abandoned on the roadside with Rs 500. The Sindh High Court recently convened a hearing to address the recovery of seven individuals, including Khan, who had disappeared six years ago.
What’s the connection?
Allegedly linked to the political group Muttahida Qaumi Movement London (MQM-L), these individuals’ cases raised concerns about enforced disappearances. During the hearing, Mohammad Javaid Khan recounted his ordeal, stating that he was kept blindfolded throughout his captivity. And was unaware of his whereabouts during the past six years.
He asserted that his detention was a result of his affiliation with the political party Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P). His mother, visibly relieved at her son’s return after a long ordeal, pleaded with the court to lift the block on his National Identity Card (NIC). Plus reinstate his position at the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

Responding to her plea, the court not only ordered the unblocking of Khan’s identity card. But also instructed the Water Board to review the legality of his employment status. This case sheds light on the complexities surrounding the issue of missing persons and the need for transparency and justice in such matters.
