The Sindh government has announced plans to implement random drug testing programs in schools across Karachi in an effort to combat the spread of narcotics.
Sharjeel Inam Memon, the provincial Minister for Narcotics Control, revealed the initiative in a recent statement. The program will involve anonymous drug tests on a select number of students in various Karachi schools.
“No legal action against the students”
“Random tests of some students will be conducted, and their names will be kept confidential”, emphasized Memon. He further clarified that students testing positive for drugs will not face legal repercussions. Instead, their parents will be contacted, and efforts will be made to identify the source of the drugs.
This announcement follows the Sindh government’s earlier declaration of a comprehensive crackdown against drug trafficking across the province. This broader campaign aims to dismantle drug networks and protect the youth from addiction.
Memon highlighted the importance of safeguarding the younger generation. “The young generation must be liberated from the clutches of drug dealers”, he stated. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to tackling the drug epidemic head-on.
