The airstrike occurred shortly after Haniyeh attended the inauguration of Iran’s new president and just hours after Isr@el targeted a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Isr@el will respond harshly to any aggression but did not comment directly on Haniyeh’s death. The killing complicates the already tense situation in the Middle East, potentially affecting cease-fire talks in G@za and increasing tensions with Hezbollah.
