The Holy Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, will be draped in a new Kiswa on July 7th (Muharram 1), marking the beginning of the Islamic new year. The Kiswa is the cloth that covers the walls and doors of the Kaaba and signifies a great honor and blessing for Muslims worldwide.
This year’s Kiswa is a masterpiece crafted from a staggering 670 kilograms of natural silk, intricately interwoven with 120 kilograms of gold thread and 100 kilograms of silver thread. The total weight of this magnificent covering reaches a remarkable 1,300 kilograms.
The cost of creating this exquisite Kiswa is estimated to be around 20 million Saudi riyals, reflecting the dedication and meticulous craftsmanship involved.
