Hurricane Debby, recently downgraded to a tropical storm, brought an unexpected delivery to a Florida Keys beach. Border patrol agents recovered 25 packages of cocaine, worth over $1 million, that had been blown ashore by the storm.
A beachgoer discovered the suspicious packages and promptly alerted authorities. According to Samuel Briggs II, Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Miami Sector, each package was marked with a distinctive red V-shaped logo over a black rectangle. The total weight of the cocaine was approximately 70 pounds.
Briggs confirmed the find on Monday, though no further details have been released. This incident mirrors a similar event last year when Tampa Mayor Jane Castor found 70 pounds of cocaine on a Florida Keys beach, also valued at over $1 million.
