Pakistan’s former Ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, advised Imran Khan to stop expecting that the newly elected US President, Donald Trump, would intervene to secure his release from prison. Speaking to Geo News, Haqqani urged Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to “wake up from his dreams,” as Trump’s policies are not shaped to meet others’ demands.
Haqqani stated that he has never lobbied for Khan’s release and noted that securing Khan’s freedom has not been part of Trump’s priorities. “For Trump to take interest, PTI would need to convince him how it could be beneficial to him,” he added.

Haqqani emphasized that Trump’s interactions with other leaders, such as Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu and India’s Premier Modi, have not included any requests for Khan’s release. He reiterated that American presidents, unlike Khan, do not shape their policies based on individual influences, suggesting that Khan’s expectations of Trump’s support are unrealistic.
