ICC Incurs $20 Million Loss For Hosting T20 World Cup 2024 In West Indies & USA

Source: Sporting News

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reported a significant financial loss of $20 million (approximately Rs.167 crore) from the T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.

According to a PTI report, this financial setback will be a key topic during the ICC Annual Conference starting Friday in Colombo.

The losses are attributed to hosting a major part of the tournament in the USA. Including the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match in New York. Although this issue is not part of the nine-point agenda for the Annual General Meeting (AGM), it will be addressed in a “post-event report.”

Another important topic at the AGM will be the potential replacement of Greg Barclay by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah as the ICC chairman. An ICC source mentioned that Shah’s succession is a matter of timing. Given his current term with the BCCI ends in 2025.

There may be discussions about extending the chairman’s term from two years to three years. This change could allow Shah to align his term as ICC chairman with his cooling-off period from the BCCI. The financial implications of the T20 World Cup and leadership changes will be central to the ICC’s discussions.
