Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has sparked controversy by questioning the fitness of wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan.
Pakistan is currently in England for a T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup, and Khan was selected for the squad despite an underwhelming T20I record. While Khan performed decently in the recent PSL, Afridi believes his overall fitness level falls short of expectations.
“When it comes to fitness, I would never allow Azam Khan anywhere near the team. I will also praise him, because he is strong, he hits the ball well. But for wicketkeeping, in places like England the ball carries well but in West Indies, it will stay low and he might struggle”, stated Shahid Afridi.

While Afridi clarified that his intention is not to demoralize the team before the World Cup, his comments raise questions about Khan’s selection and put pressure on the young player to prove his worth.
